Chasing the Sun

Of War And Flames

STORY

Chasing the Sun” takes its inspiration from ancient Greek mythology, retelling the story of Clytie, a water nymph who fell hopelessly in love with Helios, the god of the sun. Although her feelings were intense and unwavering, Helios gave his heart to Leucothoe, a mortal princess of great beauty and kindness.

Blinded by jealousy and consumed by heartbreak, Clytie revealed the secret affair to Leucothoe’s father, the king. Enraged, he punished his daughter by burying her alive. This cruel act did not win Helios back. Instead, Clytie was left in despair, lying on the earth, gazing longingly at the sun she could never possess.

According to the myth, Clytie’s unending devotion eventually transformed her into a heliotrope — a violet flower that always turns to follow the sun across the sky.

A Balance of Fury and Sorrow

Musically, “Chasing the Sun” mirrors the emotional contrast at the heart of the story. The verses are fast and intense, reflecting Clytie’s rage, jealousy, and emotional collapse. In contrast, the choruses slow down and become more melodic, capturing the sorrowful fate of Leucothoe and the quiet, eternal longing of Clytie’s final form.

Lyrics like “Fed his anger with deception” and “Buried alive and betrayed by her blood” evoke both tragedy and consequence. The song paints a vivid portrait of how destructive love can be when twisted by envy, and how devotion can outlast even death.

Eternal Devotion in Bloom

The closing imagery of the song brings the myth full circle. As Clytie transforms, she continues to watch Helios endlessly from below. The line “Turns the head always to watch him cross the sky” speaks to her eternal loop — a symbol of beauty, punishment, and unwavering love. This transformation becomes her curse and her legacy.

“Chasing the Sun” is a dynamic and emotional track that combines myth, melody, and message. It reminds listeners that love, when lost or betrayed, can leave marks that last forever, sometimes even in the form of a flower.

Behind the Song

Lyrics

Sick of love, sick of her, princess on the Earth

A pure maiden of kindness and beauty

All the jealousy and rage of the water nymph

Made her go crazy

For his love she will die, buried by the King alive

Nine long days, betrayed by her Sun forevermore

Under the leaves she rests

Had to face her father′s revenge

Fed his anger with deception

Buried alive and betrayed by her blood

Full of hate, passion burns, lost the game again

Blinded by hate, trying to bring her Sun back

Taking away his new love wasn't the right choice

Made him go crazy

For his love she will die, buried by the King alive

Nine long days, betrayed by her Sun forevermore

Under the leaves she rests

Had to face her father′s revenge

Fed his anger with deception

Buried alive and betrayed by her blood

Upon hills and green fields her form changed

Turns the head always to watch him cross the sky

Endless loop, pain and truth, forced to praise the Sun

A sunflower's born

For his love she will die, buried by the King alive

Nine long days, betrayed by her Sun forevermore

Under the leaves she rests

Had to face her father's revenge

Fed his anger with deception

Buried alive and betrayed by her blood

By her blood

Oh oh oh
